    SUMMER IS HERE!

Spring is a great time to schedule your routine maintenance pumping of your septic system. Does your system have lids and risers allowing ground level access to your septic system? If you haven't had lids and risers installed, we strongly suggest doing so at the earliest possible opportunity. Having lids and risers installed to bring access to the septic tank up to ground level will save you money and time on future maintenance pump outs of your septic system. It will also be extremely beneficial should you need to gain access to the septic tank during winter months. During extended periods of below freezing temperatures, the ground may be too frozen to allow access to lids which are buried. We urge you to have lids and risers installed as soon as possible to avoid the potentially disastrous consequences of septic system back ups during periods when gaining access to the system could otherwise be difficult or impossible!

DARKE COUNTY APPROVES M S I ENVIRONMENTAL'S LID AND RISER SYSTEM

We are excited to announce that the Darke County General Health District has approved M S I Environmental's Lid and Riser System for use in their county! M S I Environmental uses a combination of concrete lids and high quality plastic dual wall riser tube. M S I Environmental's Lid & Riser System was already approved by and has been in use for many years in the other counties we service. There are numerous advantages to the use of this combination including:

1    There are infinite variable heights which can be obtained with high quality plastic dual wall riser tube by simply cutting to the desired height

2    High quality plastic dual wall riser tube will resist gases which might otherwise lead to deterioration or corrosion providing long term durability

3    Due to its rugged, durable yet lightweight nature, high quality plastic dual wall riser is easy to move and install

4    Combined with concrete lids, the riser system is durable enough to drive over with a lawn mower and heavy enough to keep children from gaining access

5    High quality plastic dual wall riser tube is very cost efficient as well as versatile

6    M S I uses 18" diameter riser tube which works well for septic maintenance and access for repairs to the inlet and/or outlet of the septic tank

7    Concrete lids are rebar reinforced as well as durable and when combined with high quality plastic dual wall riser tube and flexible rubber sealant,

the riser system will last for many years under normal conditions and can be specifically fitted to be practical, non-obstructive and convenient

8    All joints are sealed with a high quality rubber sealant which provides permanently flexible watertight joints. This high quality flexible sealant does

adhere to plastic as well as concrete. The sealed joints will not shrink, harden or oxidize upon aging and is durable through a wide range of

temperature fluctuations

9    M S I's riser system can be installed to bring the access to the septic system to a level flush with the ground for easy access as well as not disrupting

    mowing or other lawn maintenance

ATTENTION MERCER COUNTY OHIO RESIDENTS:

Thinking of buying or selling a home? For those of you not already aware, we offer the following information regarding real estate inspections. This regulation is already in effect. The Mercer County Health Department requires documentation that residential septic systems have been pumped out by a licensed septage hauler within the previous five years from the date of any real estate inspection performed by their department.

Their office recommends as we do, that septic tanks be pumped out every 3 to 5 years. Regular septic tank pumping is crucial to maintaining a properly working system. Failure to have the septic tank pumped regularly will ultimately result in system failure and the need for system replacement. For those buying a home, this regulation helps insure that proper maintenance has taken place on this vital part of your investment.

The Health Department will not be using this requirement to force upgrades to existing septic systems that may not be compliant with newer regulations governing residential septic systems. A septic system will be considered acceptable as long as it is functioning properly at the time of the real estate inspection and not creating a nuisance condition.

If you are looking to buy or sell a home, take appropriate measures to insure the septic system at the property involved is compliant with this regulation as early as possible in the process to avoid delays at or near the time of closing.

For further information or if you have questions concerning this matter, please call the Mercer County Health Department at 419-586-3251.
